Mountains are always place of God’s presence. Though Calvary in Jarusalem is not a mountain in most part of the world, mountains with stations of way of the cross, are made in big mountains. In Kerala there are big mountains like Malayatur, Thumbechy, Vagamon, Valyachanmala at Aruvithara etc. But in all these areas, mountains are very far from the respective parishes. It is in this situation Sanjo Mount in Vadakkumury play a unique role. It may be the only systematically made mountain near a parish church, and the total length of mountain is just 200 meters from the premise of the church. It is the first Kurisumala in the history of Kottayam Arch diocese (Of course Edakoly is there, but it is not built or maintained well as a Kurisumala). It is the only mountain made in the name of our blessed patron St. Joseph.
Sanjo Mount is made as a forane venture of Chunkom. The team of monitors lead by Very Rev. Fr Thomas Puthiyakunnel, Forane Vicar, Fr Sabu Malithuruthel, Vicar of Karimkunnam , Fr Shaji Poothara, Vicar of Vadakkumury, Mr K.J Jacob Kollamaruparambil and Mr Uthuppachan Kandoth conduct periodical meeting and supervision. On every 40th Friday of lent season, all parishes of Chunkom Forane and we hope in future all parishes of the Arch Diocese of Kottayam will reach Vadakkumury to make the day great and memorable. And to begin the programme we hope to finish the works at least partially before 27th of March 2015 so that Mar Mathew Moolakkattu will bless the mountain in the presence of Mar George Madathikandathil our great neighbor and bishop of Kothamangalam.
At present we could complete all 14 and the primary and final stations and the passages to reach there. Of course many things are to be made soon and of course with the help of all who visit this mountain. We have to make hand rails and concreting or stone paving in the passages for easy walking. A big statue of St Joseph, stations of 20 mysteries of the rosary, a Marian watch tower, saints garden, presentation of biblical events toilet blocks, rest rooms etc. etc. are our future dreams and obviously we stretch out our hands before the well wishers and like minded people.
